We opened because we believed our city deserves more bookshops that put readers first. Places that champions new voices, celebrate Scottish writing, and makes everyone who comes through the door feel genuinely welcome.

Our Story

who are we?

We’re Ian and Drew, and between us, we’ve spent more time working in retail than we’d care to admit. When the chance came to open our own bookshop, on a street we love in a city we love even more, we jumped at the chance.

Bigglestones Books is the shop we always wanted to visit: carefully stocked, never overwhelming, with people behind the counter who love stories and will help you find what your looking for, and sometimes the unexpected.

We opened 2024 with a simple idea: that an independent bookshop should feel like a place you want to stay for a while. We think we’ve managed it. Come in and tell us if we’re wrong.

what can you expect?

We’re especially proud of our Scottish literature section.

Scotland has one of the richest literary traditions anywhere in the world — and right now, it’s producing some of the most exciting writing around. We stock Scottish fiction, poetry, drama, folklore, and history alongside a wide selection of new and notable books chosen by our team.

We keep a close eye on what’s being published by Scottish small presses and authors. If a book is making waves in Scotland, you’ll find it here.

Not sure what to read next? That’s what we’re here for.

Every book in the shop has been chosen by someone on our team and sometimes even our customers. We’re not just stocking shelves, we’re making recommendations. If you walk in and ask what we’ve loved recently, we’ll have an answer. Probably more than one.

EVENTS

Downstairs, we have an events and exhibition space where we host author readings, book clubs, poetry nights, and more.

We’ve hosted events as part of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival, and we’re always looking for new ways to bring books and people together. Keep an eye on our events page to see what’s coming up.
